The shadow of the dark liquid in the hose slowly moved as it drained from the tanker, creeping down the length of the hose toward the connection to the outflow pumps.

Tom struggled against the two reptiloids holding him. “You won’t get away with this!”

Agent Mabon looked at Tom. “But we already have. Now it is time to clean up the loose ends. Goodbye mammal.” She turned to one of her cohorts. “Kill him.”

Tom watched as the servant pulled a long knife from a scabbard and approached. One of the reptiloids holding him grabbed his hair and pulled his head back exposing his neck.

As the servant advanced it raised the knife, preparing to slice Tom’s throat open. Suddenly, Freddie appeared out of nowhere just behind her. He grabbed her wrist holding the knife and twisted. “Didn’t your mother ever tell you never to play with knives?”

“As always, you have a great sense of timing” Tom said.

Freddie and the servant engaged in a struggle over the knife. Freddie put her in an armlock and applied pressure to get her to drop the knife. It may have worked better against a human opponent, but the nerve points of the reptiloid were sufficiently different as to make the maneuver less effective. She countered by delivering a solid punch to Freddie’s ribs with her free hand. Freddie gasped as the air was forced out of him by the blow.

Tom took advantage of the distraction and kicked the feet out from under one of his captors. The reptiloid dropped the strange rod they had used to incapacitate him earlier. He made a grab for it and put his fingers on the device just before it rolled away. The end of the rod sparked with electricity and Tom shoved it against the reptiloid still holding him. Tom’s arm went numb as the energy flowed from his attacker into the arm she still held. The creature let out a hoarse cry as it was stunned and fell to the ground. Quickly Tom rolled and struck the other reptiloid with the device, rendering it stunned as well.

Freddie took several blows from his opponent as she beat at him, trying to get free. Freddie still had hold of her wrist through it all. He brought her arm over and down, forcing her to the ground. She rolled with it and was coming back up again when Tom stepped up behind her. He jabbed the reptiloid with the rod. Her body convulsed as the electricity flowed into her, then she fell on the ground, motionless.
