“Are you comfortable my dear?” Vincenzo Piorelli, Vinnie to his friends and associates, stopped to check in on Jane.
Jane was tied to a chair with a gag in her mouth. She mumbled something and shook her head ‘no’. The look of pure hatred in her eyes said much more.
“You know I don’t like keeping you like this. Its not really my style. But I had to do something to get the attention of that deadbeat you are dating. As soon as he pays up, you’ll be free to go and you won’t ever have to worry about me again. At least, not until your boyfriend goes on another losing streak.”
One of Vinnie’s hired muscle came in. “Hey boss, we just got a call from that Foster guy. He says he’s coming over.”
“Molto bene. See, your boyfriend is coming over now. Soon you two lovebirds will be able to get on with your lives. And when you do, I wish the two of you every happiness.”
Jane mumbled something again.
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a schedule to keep.” Vinnie got up and left the small room. He went into his warehouse, his sanctuary from all the cares of the world. He pulled out a pocket watch, flipped it open, closed it again and scooted over to a large control panel.
The warehouse was stuffed with dioramas of landscapes, mountains, hills, and farmlands. Running through them all was an intricate system of model trains. “Ah, here comes Engine 47, right on time.”
A small train pulling several cars was rolling down the scaled down track, and heading toward a train station. Vinnie moved some controls and the engine slowed as it approached. Finally the engine came to rest at the station. Tiny figures moved around on the platform as if they were going to board the train. A miniature crane swung around and lowered a claw to catch a box sitting on a long flatbed car. The crane raised the box and swung it to the platform, then set it down. It maneuvered around to get a different box which it then placed on the now vacated flatbed car.
“Come along folks, the train needs to pull out of the station soon.” The tiny people stopped moving around the platform. Vinnie pushed a button and the whistle of the train sounded. Soon it was starting to move again and picked up speed as it left the station. “Another successful stop. Happy travels my little friend.”
