You just can’t get good help these days

So, we were running late today, and with one thing and another we decided to go out to eat instead of staying in and making dinner.

The wife had one last errand to run before we went to forage for food. It took longer than expected to get the task done, and not even completed to the wife’s satisfaction, and it was getting late by the time we headed to the restaurant.

We got there and the place was just closing. Okay, drop back to Plan B.

We had a good alternative restaurant nearby so we headed over to it. They too were closing. Righty-o. Plan C.

We headed to the local KFC. The wife wanted two thighs and some chicken livers, and cole slaw. I opted for a Classic Chicken Sandwich and fries. Hard to go wrong with a Classic Chicken Sandwich.

We pull up in the drive-thru lane, and there is a pickup truck in front of us. We wait a minute or two and the truck pulls up to the window. We move up and wait for the person to take our order. And wait. After a few minutes someone gets on and tells us it will be a minute before they can get our order. So we wait a bit more. In the meantime, several more cars pulled in line behind us.

The person gets on the speaker, apologizes for the delay, and takes our order. We give them our order and they tell us to pull around to the window.

We get to the window and wait another few minutes. The several cars behind us come through and line up in back of us.

We finally get our order. The wife stops to check it, mainly because this particular KFC is notorious for getting our orders wrong. My Classic Chicken Sandwich and fries were fine. And the chicken livers were in tact. But they gave my wife one thigh and a breast. We told the lady at the window about the mistake and she said she’d get another thigh for us. She walked off and a moment later a guy came over and handed us a box with two thighs in it. Well, at least we got two extra pieces of chicken out of the deal. We pulled out of the lane and came home.

When we got home we found one more mistake. What we thought was the container full of cole slaw was instead filled with mashed potatoes and gravy.

I don’t think we’ve gotten an order right from there the last five times we’ve been there. We don’t go there often but this is consistent enough to make me question their abilities to get an order right. The wife is a fan of KFC so that is where we tend to go if we get fast food. Her favorite is McDonald’s but I stopped eating there in 1977, so we don’t go there. Or if we do, she gets something and if I must get something from there I get fries. Hard to mess up fries, but Mickey D’s has even managed to do that on occasion.

Ultimately I think the solution is to stop eating at fast food places. Or at least at this KFC.
