This is the way to do customer service

  • by

We had to take our car in for some basic regularly scheduled maintenance (oil change, tire rotation) this morning. We got there relatively early and pulled into the service bay at the car dealership. One of the service techs came out and greeted us, asked what we needed done, took the keys, told us they had everything under control and invited us to wait i the customer waiting room. They even took it in stride when I asked them to check the tires and see if any of them had a leak as the tire pressure light kept coming on but I couldn’t determine which tire was giving us trouble.

The waiting area was comfortable, with several couches ad chairs to sit in. You can take a short nap in one and be comfortable. There were several high tales and stools nearby as well, for folks wo like to work on their laptops while waiting. There was a machine to get ice and water, and a Kuerig coffee maker, for those that like the stuff.

They even had the most important thing, at least in my opinion, to make customers feel totally at ease and welcomed.

Chocolate chip cookies.

Okay, they were store bought, individually wrapped cookies, not fresh baked homemade cookies, but still.

For me, giving me chocolate chip cookies while I’m having to wait for something covers a multitude of sins.

The wife banked at one particular bank for years until she closed down her account and moved to another bank. The big draw for me? You guessed it. They too had chocolate chip cookies. I always grabbed one every time she went in to deposit money or do other transactions.

The service tech came by while we waited to let us know the oil change and tire rotation wet well, but it was going to take another half hour to get the tires checked for punctures ad sealing them if they found one.

The time went by quickly enough and soon the tech came to tell us our car was ready. He got us checked out quickly. The oil change and tire rotation were already covered under warranty but we had to pay for getting the tire puncture diagnosed and fixed.

Overall, the experience was easy, even pleasant. The wait didn’t seem all that long. They kept us informed throughout the process. There wasn’t any annoying children, or loud TV or radios playing. In all, this is the way you do customer service. So unlike other recent experiences we’ve had. It’d be nice if more places could do this level of keeping their customers happy.

If you’d like to support my efforts, why not buy me a chocolate chip cookie through my Ko-Fi page? https://ko-fi.com/jhusum
