In Paranoia: The Role-playing Game (Think 1984’s Big Brother meets The Three Stooges in the domed city from Logan’s Run), they define troubleshooting as “finding the trouble and shooting it.”
I spent my day troubleshooting, but in the more traditional sense rather than the Paranoia RPG sense.
I hunted down the owner’s manual for our washing machine. I read up on the error codes the machine can display. The original F02 error was an electrical problem. I took the steps the manual suggested (such as uplugging the washer, resetting the control system, etc.) then tried running the Spin cycle as a test. This at least let me get the door open, so I moved the clothes over to the dryer. The washer still wasn’t working and I got another error message. I tried the few steps for the new error message but still no luck. The final step was to call a repairman to fix the machine. I did that.
Next was the garbage disposal. Watched several YouTube videos on how to replace a garbage disposal. It doesn’t look terribly difficult and I think I can do it. However checking on the required tools I didn’t have them in my arsenal. (I do have them, just not where I’m currently located.) Fortunately the repairman coming to fix the washing machine can replace the garbage disposal. Went out to the hardware store and picked up a new disposal.
Finally, I turned my attention to the dishwasher. It seems that it didn’t drain properly when I ran it the other evening and there is a puddle of water sitting in the bottom of it. Back to YouTube to watch several videos on what to do if there is water sitting in the bottom of your dishwasher. Again, not terribly difficult, but I do not have the right tools here to do the job. I can at least scoop all the water out and see if our repairman can unclog it.
Never underestimate having the right tool for the job, my Hordeling, even if the right tool is someone else doing the task.
