Troubleshooting, Part III

  • by

So, we got the notice that the new washer was going to be delivered sometime this morning between 8:00 AM and noon. All well and good. I was up early anyway and walked the dogs.

Around 8:15 AM I got a call from the delivery guy saying he’d be at the house within twenty minutes. I was a bit surprised because almost every time I’ve had a delivery or repair service give me a time estimate they arrive at the tail end of their estimated arrival time.

It turned out to be a good thing that the delivery guy got here early. When he arrived he asked where the new machine was going to reside in the house. I showed him where the laundry room was and he said he’d get the dryer out first. I told him that the dryer was staying and the washer needed to go. He told me he had a dryer on the truck for us. Rut ro, Shraggy!

He called dispatch and they called me. I confirmed that we were supposed to get a new washer, not a dryer. They said they’d take it back to the warehouse.

I found the receipt and sure enough, the sales guy had rung up the dryer of the pair we were looking at, not the washer.

Drove back to the store. They looked up the transaction and saw it was for the dryer. They voided it out but said they couldn’t get us a refund until it got back to the distribution center. They did proceed to ring up the washer (I double checked the receipt to make sure they had the right thing this time) and I headed home.

Got a call later from the distribution center saying they had the dryer back and our refund would be charged back to the card we used to make the purchase. It won’t be for seven to ten business days though. That’s kind of annoying but as long as they get it back to us I’m good with it.

The whole process was relatively painless, but it would have been nice to be done right the first time. Serves me right for not checking the receipt and catching it. The new washer should be here tomorrow morning.

In other home repair news, I fixed the hole in the gate the dogs used to escape the backyard. I also fixed one of the pickets the dogs knocked loose on the fence as they were barking at our neighbor’s new dog on the other side of it.

I fixed the door knob that broke the other evening. Ended up having to buy a completely new knob and get it in place. Not a horribly difficult process except for getting the screws tightened. You’ve got a door knob in the way so it makes it rather difficult to get a screwdriver on them to screw them in place.
