Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife!

  • by

On this day, four years ago, I was wed to my wonderful wife at the Texas Renaissance Festival. It was the culmination of months of planning and effort.

We exchanged vows at the Cathedral Chapel in front of family and friends. One of our friends officiated and performed the ceremony to wed us. It was a magical day of fun and frivolity.

We had our reception at a local Italian restaurant. When polling the guests for what courses we should have, nearly everyone picked chicken fettuccini alfredo as one of the choices. When it was all done, we had six pans of chicken fettuccini alfredo left over. Took us a month or more to eat it all. Since then we’ve had a running joke when eating at Italian restaurants where I’d ask the wife if she wanted chicken fettuccini alfredo, and she’d give me a Look, and I’d say “Too soon?” to which she’d reply “Yes.”

Our honeymoon coincided with our first anniversary. We went to South Lake Tahoe to view the scenery. The second day we were there the wife ended up in the hospital, having pneumonia and a heart attack. It seems the elevation was too much for her. The doctor told her to leave South Lake Tahoe and never return. Fortunately, the wife had a friend who lives several hours away from South Lake Tahoe at sea level. We spent the rest of the anniversary with my wife’s friend. I got to sleep in a recliner in the living room with the cat because the doctor said my wife was contagious and I wasn’t allowed to be near her.

For our second anniversary we again spent it in the hospital. My wife had a heart attack several days before our anniversary and the doctors put a stent in her heart. Then on our anniversary she was in surgery having a taver put in her heart. Hospitals don’t like family members staying in the patient’s room. This is evidenced by the instruments of torture that are the chairs they make you sleep in.

Our third anniversary we didn’t spend in the hospital. We had a nice dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant. Simple and sweet.

This year we kept things simple again. We cleaned out one of the rooms in the house, throwing away some shtuff, and sorting the rest in to ‘keep’ and ‘sell’ piles.

We had dinner and watched some TV this evening.

Oh, and I guess it is no longer ‘too soon’. We ate chicken fettuccini alfredo for dinner.
