Relentless Positivity

We played Scrabble today with our friend Babs. She won all three games. On the upside of things, this was the first time I got to play the word ‘siege’ in a Scrabble game.

That’s such a Babs thing, looking on the upside. She is the most relentlessly positive person on the planet. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a negative comment come out of her mouth. If she gets crappy letters in her hand, she simply says “These are challenging letters to play.” If the board doesn’t have many good openings to build words upon, she thinks that is simply a challenge too. She fed us a nice chicken and vegetable soup and biscuits between the games.

If an animal in her neighborhood was in need, she’d finds a way to supply the need. If a friend needed a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen, she’d lend them hers. If a hurricane destroyed her house, she’d immediately start rebuilding it as soon as the storm ended.

Her favorite saying is “Thank you for everything, I have no complaints.” She expresses her gratitude to the Universe-at-large non-stop. She is generous and always willing to lend a hand. In fact, two years ago when I was cleaning out my house and getting it ready to sale, Babs came over to help me clean out the garage. Like many garages it ended up being a storage unit for every piece of junk I couldn’t decide to throw away and kept because “I might need it some day.” She helped me bag up the garbage to throw away, she helped me get the stuff being donated boxed up and ready to go, and swept the place out once we had everything out of it.

Let’s face it. Babs is Good as Heaven. She’s the goodest on the block. She’s good news. She’s good at what she does. She’s good company. She’s a good influence. She’s a good apple. She’s good to the bone. She’s a total goodass.

May your light and optimism shine like a beacon during the dark night of the soul of this world, Babs. May it shine for many more years to come. And may we all emulate your example.

  1. Wow James
I am so flattered. The word
    Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious came to mind.
I’m glad the positive energy (that’s in all of us) is being used to uplift in memorable ways.
