Sirocco decided to get me up at approximately 5:40 AM this morning. The wife didn’t get up much longer after me.
After getting breakfast made for the wife, it was time to take the dogs for their morning walk. Magdalena was all wound up before we even started. Not sure what got her into that state.
I got Major Tom and Sirocco out and back just fine. Then it was Magdalena’s turn.
I got her outside and had a hard time getting her harness on her. She was ready to go and didn’t want to bother with little things like having a harness or leash on. We’ve done this plenty of times so she knows the routine. Anyway, finally got it on her in spite her bouncing around. At least she is getting better about sitting before I open the gate. I make all the dogs sit and be still before actually starting the walk. She sat, and leaned against me, so I figured we were ready to go.
I opened the gate and she went through. She was pretty good until we got to the end of the driveway. Then she decided she was going for a run. I managed to keep her in check and not bolting down the street.
We got almost to the intersection where we turn around to come home when she saw a couple ahead of us, pushing strollers. She decided these were nice people and she simply had to meet them. She started trying to charge forward, using all those Huskey muscles she’d be using if she were pulling a dogsled through the snow.
I did my best to reign her in, but it was no use. As I tried to pull her back I tripped and fell. I landed hard. The leash went out of my hand so she was off and running.
Pain shot through the heels of my palms, as well as my right knee. I was just trying to get my knee out from under me when the couple said “Are you all right?”
I looked up. Magdalena had gone right to them and settled down. The man had grabbed her by the collar and was leading her back to me.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I said. “Just some bruises.”
There was a hole in my jeans where I fell on my knee, but I didn’t see any signs of blood. I could stand on it at least. I took Magdalena back from the guy then he and his wife went on their way. I walked Magdalena back to the house. She was nice and calm on the way back.
My palm heels were a bit scuffed but not overly so. My knee has a nasty scrape on it. It was about two hours later after my shower that I noticed other aches and pains, especially my back.
I’m not sure that I’m going to take her walking again after this. I probably will, but I definitely need to get her some training on how to walk better with a leash on her. Up until now, she has been fairly sedate when walking. I’m hoping this was a one time occurrence.
