OK, last summer, when I was having problems with the laptop, I know I had collected all the tales I wrote for Cat’s Indie Author Advent Calendar together in one place. I knew that this year was going to be the last time she ran it so I wanted to gather all the tales to release as an ebook.
Danged if I can find them all. I’ve found the two I did last time around. I’ve got this year’s story. I cannot find the first one I wrote, nor the second. I think I found the third story, but now I can’t find it again.
I know I had them at one time. I know they were on the laptop. I am confident I transferred everything from the dying laptop to the new computer.
And yet I can’t find the stories.
I went through the steps to turn on indexing in Windows 11. The search function is now working the way it used to do. Previously, it would only find the search term if it was in the file name. Now it is looking for the search term in the text of the file as well. The way it should be. Why Microsoft changed that from being the default behavior is beyond me.
Anyway, I’ve done a search for every conceivable keyword I can think of for the stories I’m missing. No luck so far. I’m going to do one last thing tomorrow and do a search for every .txt, .rtf, .doc, .docx, and .odt file on my hard drives to see if I can find the stories. If that doesn’t do it, maybe I’ll try to recreate the ones I’m missing from memory.
I feel like I’m getting senile. 🙁
