A while back, I mentioned manhandling our friend’s cat and the cat’s bad reaction to it.
Today we were back again to the same friend’s house for more Scrabble. When we arrived, the Scrabble game had already been set up, and George was in the game box.
I approached George, who looked like he was sleeping.
“George”, I said in a low voice. “How are you today?”
I reached out and gently scritched his ear. It twitched once or twice. He slowly raised is head, then stretched a little bit.
I moved from his ears to the top of his head, then down to his cheeks. He stared at me through half-opened eyes. He turned his head and started sniffing my palm, then started nibbling on my thumb. Not enough to hurt or draw blood, but definitely enough to know he was doing it. I let him continue for a moment, then he pulled away. I take it that he has properly ‘chastised’ me now and we are back on good terms.
Throughout the afternoon I would reach over and give George some scritches. He usually rolled over or stretched out to get in a different position, then went back to sleep. If he wasn’t sleeping, he was watching the game, like an inscrutable Go master, having already worked out all the moves in his head and knowing he would win.

I trust now that I have reconciled with George the Cat Gods will no longer deliver terrible retribution upon me. I have proved myself to be a good and faithful cat servant once again. All is right with the world.
Random notes about today’s Scrabble game:
At one point I got to play he word ‘Pi’. How apropos for Pi Day! (March 14, because the number pi starts 3.14….)

At one point I had the letters to spell ‘Porgy’ (from the play ‘Porgy and Bess’) but couldn’t play it because you can’t use names.
I placed second in the first and second games, and third in the third game.
