This morning, sad dog. Tonight ….

So, this morning things were not good. Sirocco slept in our room overnight so he’d be away from Magdalena. When I got up this morning I couldn’t find him anywhere. I finally found him balled up in the closet under the hanging clothes. Dogs tend to isolate themselves when they aren’t feeling good. He didn’t eat or dink last night, or go out for the final potty break of the night.

I took the other dogs for their walks but Sirocco didn’t want to go. That’s unusual for him but to be expected if he was in pain.

I spent an hour trying to get through to our vet. No one was answering the phone. I finally decided to just take Sirocco over there and hope we could get in to see the vet. Sirocco seemed a little excited that he was getting to go out so I took that as a good sign.

We got to the vet’s office. I told them I tried calling but no one was answering the phone. The nurse told me she was running late and had just gotten into the office. The vet wasn’t there this morning but we got an appointment for early afternoon.

I brought Sirocco home, then took him for a short walk to see if he would go potty. No luck.

The second I walked in the door Magdalena tried pouncing on Sirocco. I swatted her on the backside and told her ‘no’. She backed off.

Went about the day until it was time to go back to the vet. Ate lunch just before leaving and Sirocco ate a few pieces of food. He was also excited when I grabbed the leash and went to the door. I took both of these as good signs.

Back at the vet’s office, Sirocco went potty before we went in. He was shaking the whole time we were there but he did well with the exam. At least he didn’t try snapping at the vet. The prognosis – Sirocco has a minor back injury but it shouldn’t cause any long-term problems. He was prescribed pain meds and muscle relaxers.

Got Sirocco home and gave him his first round of meds. He seems to be improving. At least he ate diner tonight and drank some water. He’s been moving around the house more than yesterday. Again, I take these as good signs.

Within a few days he should be as good as new – as long as Magdalena doesn’t pounce on him again.
