Estate sale, Day 2

  • by

Not quite as crazy as yesterday but still a lot of work.

The day started much the same as yesterday – shower, breakfast, dogs of to day care, etc.

We pretty much had everything ready to go this time around. A few people started in early as we were getting things set up.

One of the first ladies in asked “what’s your discount rate for today?” A true, hard-core estate saler. We weren’t planning any discounts that I knew of and told her to ask the wife. It seems standard operating procedure is to mark everything at a discount on the last day of a estate (or garage) sale. News to me.

We didn’t have a gigantic, frenzied rush at the start this time, but we did have a fairly slow, steady stream of shoppers.

We managed to get rid of some large items that I didn’t think would sell. We had a electric scooter that needed new tires and a battery that someone bought. Someone else bought a nice Craftsman table saw that wasn’t working. We sold the punching bag that has been sitting unused for at least a decade. We sold my guitar, which I never really learned to play anyway.

We spent the day getting things sold. The one thing I regret having sold was my entire collection of Stargate SG-1 , Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: Infinity, and the two Stargate TV series movies (Cotinuum, Ark Of Truth). A guy came by forty-five (45) minutes before the sale ended and bought them. I was kind of hoping they wouldn’t sell so I could move them to the new abode with me. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

I did learn from my mistake yesterday and stayed hydrated today. I was doing a lot of running back and forth and manning the outside part of the sale. Add to that the set up / tear down and I needed a lot of water.

Overall, I think we did OK, but not as well as I would have liked. We still have a lot of shtuff left over that I’m not sure how we will get rid of. But we have a little time yet to deal wit it.

Tomorrow, I’m taking a day of rest and I don’t plan on doing anything, just like the song.
