Over the weekend my phone had an automatic update. The user interface has changed. I don’t like it.
I’m generally not a big fan of change. My life works better when it runs along an established routine. I like consistency. When I put an object down, I expect it to be there when I come back for it later. It drives me nuts when other people move my shtuff and I don’t know where it is anymore.
If you’re going to update the user interface on my phone, let me know ahead of time and give me the option of either rejecting it outright or being able to change back to the previous version. Don’t just update my phone and make me have to do things that I used to do easily but now I can’t because the interface doesn’t work the same way.
For instance, I used to be able to swipe down from the top and get the panel of utilities. Most importantly I had the flashlight icon there. I find I use the flashlight feature quite often. I needed to try and find something that rolled under the couch. I pulled out my phone to use the flashlight and discovered that now when I swipe down I get all the notifications from email., social media, etc. No flashlight. It appears I now have to double-tap the top bar on the screen to get the utility icons and the flashlight.
Another example. I needed to connect my phone to my car system so the wife could make a phone call while I was driving to her doctor’s appointment. I couldn’t find the Bluetooth icon to tether the phone to the car. Not wanting to do it while trying to drive I pulled my phone out when we got to a stop sign and looked for the Bluetooth connection. It didn’t take too long and finally found it and tethered the device. Fortunately there were no cars behind me at the stop sign. I’m sure they would have been annoyed sitting behind me in the time it took to get the Bluetooth connection going. As I said it didn’t take too long, but that is one of those situations where a short time can feel drawn out. I don’t want to delay someone else because I can’t find a function on my phone.
I’m not completely opposed to new things. I just want to be introduced to said new thing first, so I can decide the best way and when to integrate it into my routine. If a new movie comes out I want to see I can go see it at the theatre or I can wait until it comes on streaming or I can go out and buy it on Blu-ray. I get to choose how I adopt it into my routine.
Anyway, I’m still tired from the estate sale held over the weekend. We didn’t do as well financially as I would have liked but we did manage to get rid of a lot of items, including some I didn’t know how we would get rid of if they didn’t sell in the estate sale.
I’m off to sleep, my Hordeling. I hope you are getting plenty of rest.
