Yesterday, the wife had agonizing back pain for most of the day. It was rough watching her go through that and not being able to do anything about it.
The pain subsided and she went to sleep around 7:00 PM. I spent the evening getting a few things done, then writing my daily post.
Around 11:45 PM I was getting ready to shut down for the night. The wife was hacking and trying to clear her nose so I woke her up to try and help. After getting her sinuses clear she was sitting there, looking around. She seemed confused. She also kept teetering back and forth, enough that I thought she might fall to the floor. I had to try to hold her up. She could tell me her name, but not the year or who the current President is. We had checked her blood sugar earlier in the evening and it was very high. I had to wonder if that was the cause.
Given her past medical history, I grew concerned. Ultimately I ended up calling 9-1-1. The dispatcher sent an ambulance to our house and they arrived a few minutes later.
The EMTs checked her out and took all her vitals. Everything was normal. She could answer their questions like her name, the date and who is the current President. They asked if she wanted to go to the ER, but she declined. They had us sign the papers saying she had refused to go, then they left.
I tried getting to bed, but an hour or so later she was up again. This time she said she wanted me to take her to the ER. I got ready to go, got her ready to go, and at the last minute she talked herself out of it and decided she didn’t want to go after all.
When I finally got to bed and attempted to sleep it was a little after 3:00 AM.
These late nights are rough and the lack of sleep will catch up to me sooner or later. For now, though, I remain fairly indestructible.
