So … many … boxes

  • by

In the new home today and working on getting things in place.

I looked around and realized we have so … many … boxes!

I mean, I packed most of them before we moved out of the old house. You would think that I’d know how many boxes there would be to unbox at the other end. I’m looking around the house and I would swear the boxes had an orgy in transit to the new house, they all got pregnant, and squirted out a dozen more boxes each before the truck reached its destination.

It could just be that I was having to move furniture around. Of course any time I needed to move furniture I also had to move boxes to clear a path from Point A and Point B. I also had to move boxes out of the space the piece of furniture was going to sit in. Now that we have the furniture in place (well, mostly) I can hopefully make progress in getting the boxes emptied and the contents put on shelves and furniture.

One piece of furniture has been problematic. We have a large filing cabinet that has three bays. Each bay spins so you can have it opened or closed. Some of the shelves got knocked loose in transit. They are metal and slip into little slots on the sides of the bay. You would think that they’d be easy to just slide back into the slots, and you’d be wrong. The shelves kept getting stuck halfway between the rows of slots. No matter how much pounding I did I couldn’t get the shelves to slide down. After lots of wrangling (and changing the spacing of the shelf heights) I got all the shelves back in place. Then I found out that one of the bays wouldn’t turn. I looked around the mechanism but couldn’t figure out how to get it loose. I’ll have to try again later when I’m not quite so tired.

Anyway, I shall eventually get through the boxes. I feel like if we don’t unbox something then we should just put it on the curb with a big free sign. The wife may not be happy with this plan, but that will be a battle for another day.
