The World’s Most Uncomfortable Chair

  • by

Every hospital in the world seems to have the same model. It is a recliner. Sort of.

The back doesn’t really recline much at all, but the foot rest does come up. There is no handle or other mechanism to get the chair to recline. You have to exert pressure backwards while sitting in the seat for it to bring the foot rest up. It makes an odd ‘clung’ sound when it flips up into place. And the foot rest only extends a foot or so. Maybe he engineer who designed it took ‘foot rest’ literally? Your feet end up hanging off the end, sort of free floating like they were in space.

This a very uncomfortable position to sleep in. Sine the back doesn’t recline you are almost sitting straight up. Your head has to drop to he front, or roll to the side. Either way it puts a strain on your neck and leads to neck cramps. If the back would just recline some more so you’d have it supporting you it would make for a much more enjoyable sleeping experience.

Also, I tend to sleep on my side, which is nigh impossible in this chair. Again, if the back reclined some more or fully back you’d be able to sleep on your side (sort of).

The thing isn’t even really comfortable to sit in. The angle, or lack thereof, of the back combined with the hard seat make me think they do it just to discourage family members from staying the night while visiting loved ones.

Add to all that, nurses coming and going to take blood sugar, checking her vitals and seeing that she’s still ‘doing well’. The wife got up several times in the night as well.

Finally, the TV kept turning itself on every hour and a half or so. No one was near the remote, yet it would turn on. How odd.

I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night so I’m hoping tonight will be better.

Stay well, my Hordeling.
