Lots of activity, little progress

It’s been one of those days

Up early, usual morning things. I pulled eight ticks off Major Tom and Sirocco during the walks. They both like to go under bushes and in the tall grass where the ticks live. When they came out I could see the ticks crawling on their fur. I dispatched all of them with great vehemence.

Had to head to the Town Hall so I could sign some paperwork related to the water and sewer utilities for the new house. Got filled in on all the ins and outs of the utilities and the garbage pickup. More fun than anyone should be allowed to have.

Next a visit to an insurance agent to get the house and cars insured. We’re changing over from our previous insurance company. I am not fond of insurance companies. I’ve not had any good experiences with them. And it is absolutely ridiculous that they will pay us (ha!) lots of money in the case of lost or damaged jewelry and furs, but barely a pittance for replacing my books. What’s the point then? If they don’t understand the true value of things then why should they be in business?

Next was a trip to a local business to see if they could give us a estimate on converting the patio of the new house into a sun room. It turns out they couldn’t do it, but the guy said ‘Hold on a minute, let me call someone.” He called a guy he knew who recently had a sun room built. Turns out the company he used went out of business. Another employee piped up and gave us the name of a different company that could do it.

Then it was back to the house to get more boxes unloaded. I worked mainly on the office / study trying to get our filing system organized and going through tons of paper. We really need to clean up what is currently in the filing cabinet and get rid of some of the older outdated files. Then it will be easier to go through all the paper we have and either discard it or file it properly.

Off for a quick bite to eat at a local eatery. It was a decent meal (chicken salad sandwich and tater tots) for a decent price.

The rest of the afternoon was spent with the wife at the hospital. She’s been moved out of the ICU into a regular room. The doctor was supposed to come in and talk to her about what is going on but he didn’t show while I was still there. She did tell me that the results of the echocardiogram came back. There is no bacterial colony around her TAVR so that’s good.

I came back home and got the dogs fed. The wife called to tell me the doctor came in after I left to give her an update. He said the source of the infection is in her gut, and it is the worst case scenario for what is in there. She said it was a cross between flesh-eating bacteria and a staph infection. I’m not sure how accurate this report is so I hope to get one from the medical staff tomorrow. Either way, it looks like the wife will be in the hospital a while longer.

The rest of the evening was spent on dinner, and trying to get caught up on some things.

In all, it feels like I did a lot of activity but didn’t really accomplish anything. I guess in retrospect at some distant future point I may look back and see that I actually did accomplish something, but for now I don’t see it that way.

Hope you had a productive day, my Hordeling.
