It must be a home – we’re hanging pictures

  • by

We made a push to find the missing art piece but no luck. The wife is distraught. I’m hoping it will turn up somewhere but it isn’t looking hopeful at the moment.

We made a large dent in getting the rest of the kitchen put together. We’ve got two or three boxes left to get through but otherwise it is done.

One bit of good news – I found my missing bottle of Barq’s. So what, I hear you say, I can get that at the local grocery store. Well, no, you can’t. You can get Barq’s Root Beer at your local store. This is a bottle of Barq’s. From 1984. Some of my cow-orkers at Waldenbooks (remember those?) got married and were going to Louisiana on their honeymoon. I asked them to pick me up a six pack of Barq’s. This was before they went national and became root beer. In fact, their big advertising slogan was ‘Is it root beer?’ It was sometime later, 1995 or so, that they became Barq’s Root Beer.

I decided I would keep these for special occasions. I drank four of them over the years and finally ended up with two of them. I figured I’d save them as collector’s items. They got left behind in Texas when we moved. A well meaning friend who was helping the wife pack pulled a bottle out of the fridge and had a drink, sharing it with two of the movers. I was appalled. You don’t drink collectables. Anyway, no one knew what happened to the last bottle. But I found it buried in a box of miscellaneous kitchen stuff, wrapped in a layer of newspaper, and poorly packed. At least it survived.

I’ve gotten furniture moved around and the rug in the living room laid down.

Anyway, we have started hanging pictures and a mirror. Rather, I have started hanging them. The wife just supervises and tells me they aren’t hanging level. We still have a few to put on the walls but I can’t get to the walls they are going on. Furniture or other items are siting in front of them. I’ll get to them all soon.

I also got one of our clocks hung. Every hour it plays a tune and the clock face spins around. I find it amusing.

Now that we are getting the pictures hung, the house is becoming more like a home. It feels like we are settling in and the place is ours. It feels like we can live here.
