Yes, as the subject line says, today was filled with Guy Stuff. Namely, installing chandeliers.

OK, I must admit, I didn’t do any of the actual installing myself. A friend of ours, Gilly, came over. He’s done construction for most of his life and knows enough about electrical things to be dangerous.
The wife bought two chandeliers just before we moved, with plans on getting them into the new house. Of course, once we got up here she was in the hospital, and it just kept being put off once she was out.
The wife had certain ideas of how / where she wanted the new lights placed in the house. One of them worked just fine. The other, not quite as well. After some compromising we got a place for the second chandelier.
The first one went in smoothly and fairly quickly. This one was an older, antique(ish) fixture that the wife brought with her when she left New Jersey forty (40) or so years ago.
The second chandelier was one of the new ones she bought. It wasn’t a typical “glass bowl” or hanging tier sort of thing. This one was more of a long rectangular box, with lots of dangling crystals around the sides. It looks really cool, but was difficult to get placed so it could be properly installed.
Gilly was on one ladder, while I was on a second ladder next to him. I had the fun job of holding he chandelier while Gilly did the fun things like making the electrical connections and adjusting the height at which the fixture hung. It was a strange design and overly complicated as far as adjusting the hanging height. I also got to do fun things like running up and down the ladder if a screw, or more likely, one of the side crystals fell to the floor. It seems the side crystals were not terribly well attached as something close to a dozen fell off the chandelier as we tried hanging it. Fortunately we managed to get them all placed back on the fixture before we finished.
It took most of the afternoon to get the things hung up. The first one was straightforward. It was the second one that was a pain in the backside. If it hadn’t been so complicated we probably would have bee done inside an hour.
Anyway, much kudos to Gilly for coming over and helping out.
I hope all your home projects are going well, my Hordeling.
