…not so much. Let me explain.
The wife watches a lot of TV. That’s fine. I like to watch some shows with her. For instance, we recently finished off watching Wednesday on Netflix. It was funny, and had a mystery going that kept things moving along. I enjoyed it. There are a few other series we watch – 9-1-1, Tracker, and Ghosts.
The problem comes when she is trying to find something new to watch. She’ll find a movie and start watching it. A lot of it is horror which I’m happy to let her watch by herself. Most of the time she’ll finish it, but other times she decides maybe a third of the way through that she’s no loner interested in it and turns it off. If I happen to be watching it too then I’m kinda stuck. As I’ve said before, I need to know how the story ends. Once I start watching something I’m going to finish it, no matter how crappy it turns out to be.
I tend to curate what I want to watch before starting anything. I’m real big on viewing trailers. If I see a trailer for a movie I want to see, I’ll usually make a note of the film’s title. Then when I get a chance to see it I’ll sit down and watch it. I’ve tried to get the wife to watch the trailer for something before she starts watching. It has been an uphill battle but I’m making some progress.
Most of the time she sees the title of the movie or TV show as she scrolls through the list on whatever service she’s watching. Or she’ll look at the cover image. Based on one or both she’ll start watching something.
Sometimes we’ll start a series and she might do well for a while but then lose interest. We were watching The Witcher and she was fine for the first three seasons. Then when Henry Cavill left the title roll and Liam Hensworth took over, she lost interest. I’ve managed to watch four episodes of the last season in between other times she is watching something. I’m not sure when I’ll get to watch the rest of the season.
She’s started several series that I want to watch but again she lost interest. Stranger Things is one. I saw the first three seasons but we started over so she could catch up. She liked the first season but isn’t getting into the second season. We started Van Helsing but we don’t get caught up on it very often. We started Untamed but she lost interest after episode three of a seven episode series. I’ve pushed to go on with that one since we are close to finishing it.
There are other series that I want to watch – Lost In Space, Umbrella Academy, the reboot of Quantum Leap. I saw through the middle of season 9 of The Walking Dead, but the wife has seen further than that. I am going to have to catch up. And of course I have a long way to go in The Great Trek Rewatch, where I have recently started on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It will be a while before I get to the end of the Star Trek Universe.
I’ll have to try not to get roped into any more series with the wife. Or at least not ones that she hasn’t vetted before hand.
