Long day, even got some things done

  • by

Seems like today was nothing but running around.

This morning I had to take the wife to her Bible Study group, then run to the hardware store to return some cabling that I bought for the closet restoration project but didn’t use. Then home briefly to work on some writing.

Then it was back out the door to pick the wife up, then head to the next town over for her doctor’s appointment. We stopped off at one of our favorite Asian restaurants for lunch before the appointment.

The appointment got started late because the nurse practitioner had to help a patient to the ER. While we were waiting for her to arrive, I pulled a tick off me and killed it. (It died ugly). Then after the appointment she had to get lab work done, which also took some time. I waited outside the room while she had blood drawn. No one was harmed (except the wife, a little) while the blood was drawn.

Then we had to go get a new phone for her as her old flip phone battery is dying. It will barely hold a charge for twenty-four (24) hours. She got a new flip phone, mainly because she has a very adversarial relationship with my smartphone. Somehow when she borrows my phone to make a call, she returns it with several apps open and the settings changed. I don’t know how she does this. Anyway, after she got he new phone the sales lady told us they couldn’t transfer any data (like her contacts, or text messages, or anything) to her new phone from the old one. They referred us to another place in town they said could help us.

While we were at the first phone place, I got a call from a contractor that we’ve been dealing with to get the garage fixed. There is a addition on the garage that would make a nice work shop, however, the floor is cracked and half of it is falling off at an angle. They are going to demo the floor, put support beams under it and rebuild the floor. We agreed to meet later this evening.

Off to the second phone place. Had to wait for them to handle several customers in front of me. When it was my turn I asked if they could transfer any of the data from the wife’s old phone to the new one. If she were using a smartphone, it would be a snap. Flip phones, not so much. Ultimately, the guy was unable to help me, but he did get the new battery and simcard into the phone for me. I called my phone from the wife’s new phone just to make sure it worked. (It did).

Then it was back towards the house. We stopped at a local pizza place to get dinner first, then met with the contractor. Watered the trees wile waiting for him to arrive.

At least the dogs were happy because we left them in the backyard all day while we were running around. The weather was really nice out – sunny, light breeze, not terribly hot or cold. Of course, after being outside all day the first thing Major Tom did when he came in the house was pee on a chair. I wonder about that dog sometimes.

Anyway, it was a busy day. I’m looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep tonight.
