Sorry about the radio silence yesterday, my Hordeling. I was just too tired to get anything put together last night.
So, a while back I had to give up drinking my weekly Dr. Pepper, for health reasons. I like my weekly Dr. Pepper and look forward to it. Well, did. I’ve had Diet Dr. Pepper, and whereas it is the least objectionable of diet sodas as far as taste goes, it just isn’t as good as Dr. Pepper.
The wife and I were at a local restaurant where I was lamenting the fact that I could no longer consume my soda of choice. The waiter then told me that if I wanted a good alternative, to try Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar. I was dubious, as I generally am not a fan of diet sodas (they almost all have a nasty aftertaste to them). But as Argyle said in Stranger Things, “Try before you deny“.
I finally sat down and tried it. I have to admit, it isn’t as bad as I thought it might be. It’s not as good as regular Dr. Pepper, but better than Diet Dr. Pepper. I deem it an acceptable alternative and I am making it my new weekly drink.
I’m still trying to limit myself to one a week, since it contains aspartame and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K). Talking to my gastroenterologist, she said it is highly unlikely that drinking soda with these two ingredients will cause me any problems, and that I’d have to drink a ridiculously high amount of them each day to likely be affected. Even so, I figure it is better to be prudent.
Also, it contains caffeine, which I’m allergic to. Drink enough of it and it starts giving me a rash. There are times I want to chug a two liter bottle of the stuff. I wonder if that is the caffeine making me want to consume more caffeine?
Anyway, I’m glad that I can start drinking the bouncy bubbly beverage of my choice again.
