Magdalena’s back home

  • by

I got a call today from the folks that adopted Magdalena while I was out driving. They said that things weren’t working out and we needed to take Magdalena back.

Well, that was certainly a shocker.

I asked them what happened.

The first problem was that Magdalena couldn’t climb the stairs to get up to the girl’s bedroom. We’ve never had any problems with stairs and our dog, but then again the only stairs she needs to navigate in our home is the four steps going up and down to our porch. We have an upstairs but the dogs are not allowed upstairs. Since we’ve never made her go upstairs we didn’t know it was an issue.

Second, Magdalena spent the entire night whining. Well, yeah. It’s a transition to a new home with new people. Things are going to be strange for a bit until she settles in. I wonder if the girl spent time with Magdalena, giving her pets and reassuring her?

Third, when they brought their three dogs out to meet our Baby Girl, Magdalena got up and attacked the three dogs. This is unusual behavior for her. When she was walking in the park with the girl yesterday, other dogs passed by and Magdalena didn’t react at all. The other dogs were even aggressive toward her, barking at her, but it got no reaction on her part. I wonder if they brought all three of their dogs to her at the same time or individually? All three at once may have intimidated Magdalena and she reacted poorly.

It would have bee better if they’d brought their dogs to the meet ‘n greet yesterday. Then we could have let them all run around the park together and get to know each other first.

She has had her spats with Major Tom but it has always been triggered by food. I wonder if they had treats when they were introducing the dogs? If Magdalena thought they were going to take her treats I can see her reacting that way.

I finished my errands and got back home. They had dropped Magdalena off about half an hour before, according to the wife. Magdalena was inside, lying in the middle of the floor, in the way, as she always does. It’s like she never went away.

Maybe she missed us and caused all the trouble so she’d come back to us? I don’t now. I’m happy she’s back, but we still have the issue of if she steps on Sirocco and hurts his back again, it could be a permanent injury. We still need to find a new home for Magdalena.

We’ll get her information back out there and see what happens.
