Dinner for Writers

Had a nice evening hanging out with other writers and having dinner.

We do this from time to time. We meet at a restaurant, sit around, and talk about what’s happening in our lives.

And we talk about writing. What things we are currently working on, problems we are having, things like that.

We kicked around ideas for one author’s story. He thought he’d written himself into a corner. We threw ideas out for ways for him to take his story in new directions. That lead to comparisons to various movies and TV shows, and plots that have been used before. That always leads to debates on the merits of said movies and TV shows.

One of the younger writers is totally unfamiliar with many of the shows and movies us older farts grew up with. It always surprises me when we make reference to something like Gilligan’s Island or Speed Racer, or Wild, Wild West (the show, not the movie) and this guy doesn’t know what we’re talking about. If you want to be a writer, how do you not know about these things?

In all an enjoyable evening. I’m looking forward to the next one.

  1. which younger fart is that ? I bet I can guess.. 🙂

It was good seeing you at the dinner and thanks for asking about my wizard of houston project that is stuck in replanning and other project interference. It’s nice to see interest in an idea and I wish I hadn’t been pressed for time to ask about your projects.

    1. I reserve the right to not divulge the identity of the younger fart as to protect the innocent, or something like that. 🙂
