So, back in June 2022 DriveThruRPG started up a game design jam, where they invited new game designers (and old) to create a rules-light RPG based around the theme of Summer Camp. It had to be under 20 pages, so none of these Brandon Sanderson novel-sized tomes of rules covering every possible scenario under the sun.
I pondered it for a bit and came up with an idea for a scenario – what if the summer camp grounds were the battlefield between the two fae Courts – the Seelie and Unseelie? That was about as far as I got with the idea. I thought about different game systems I might write it up in – FATE, TriCube Tales, QAGS, and others. I didn’t want to have to mess with licenses and copyright and all that stuff. So I let the idea sit for a bit more.
Fast forward to the last week of July. The deadline for submitting your game was August 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM EDT. I was out to lunch with my wife and came up with an idea for a bare bones resolution mechanic. There are surely similar systems out there, but there are TONS of RPG systems out there and I’m not aware of all of them.
I went back to my game idea and in the few spare moments I had over the week I put together my game. It is bare bones minimalist, rules-light, and kinda goofy. So, if you’d like to check it out you can find it here – https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/405017/Camp-Hiawassee–The-Fae-Court-War-PocketQuest-2022?affiliate_id=3628178 (note, that’s an affiliate link. I have a few ideas about this. I think I want to take the basic rules and separate them out as a separate product, maybe expand on them a little. There are a few other scenarios / settings I think I’d like to work on. We’ll see how it goes.
