Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

  • by

So, after the wife’s binge-watching the Omen movies all weekend, we went out to see something more suited to my tastes – Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

This is the second of the reboot movies done by Jason Reitman, Ivan Reitman’s son. Ivan of course did the two original Ghostbusters films.

Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts return in small roles as the original GB crew, joining Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace returning as the new GB crew.

Overall, I liked it but it could have been better. I don’t expect much from a Ghostbusters story and as far as I’m concerned they have a low bar to get over to keep me entertained.

The plot mostly works, but has some weak points. There are supporting characters that show up and you’re not really sure why they are in the movie. And the funny bits, which is mainly what I’m looking for, could have been funnier.

They have a few nods to the original movies, which I’m guessing they threw in to give a sense of nostalgia to old fans like me, but they felt a little forced rather than being an organic part of the film.

Everything gets pulled together at the end, so at least they didn’t leave things hanging.

Like I said, overall, I liked it, but it is probably the weakest entry in the franchise. You can wait until it hits streaming if you are thinking of watching it.
