The effort to clean, sort, pack and otherwise get our house in order continues.
We’ve made it through all the rooms except one. We have painstakingly handled every item as my wife decides whether she wants to keep, sell or donate it. The keep gets boxed, which has meant many trips to the box store for packing supplies. The fragile items get wrapped in bubblewrap before being boxed. The boxes are sealed with packing tape. My wife has specific ideas of how the boxes should be taped, as do I. But since I worked in retail book stores for 16 years and she didn’t, I go with the way I want to tape them. I had to box plenty of books to be shipped back to publishers in that time, so I think I know a little better as to what makes a well-taped box.
We’ve noticed some of the tape is pulling away from their boxes. And these were boxes we sealed as little as a month ago. Always make sure you get quality tape, dear reader.
The sell shtuff is either going to local bookstores that buy books or being put on eBay. The biggest problem with eBay is that things do sell, but it takes time. If we had five years we might get everything on eBay to sell, but we don’t have that kind of time to wait.
The majority of the donate shtuff is going to Goodwill. Back when I got rid of my shtuff I took most of it to Goodwill. The guy who accepted the donations got so sick of seeing me that he told me to stop coming to him. Of course at the time everyone was trying to downsize and get rid of their shtuff so I think the Goodwill donation center may have been overwhelmed.
In addition to all the sorting / packing / cleaning I’m trying to cram client work in there. On the whole it is keeping me busy.
I’m looking forward to getting to North Carolina if for no other reason than I can get things down to a more manageable level.
