Very early this morning I woke from a deep sleep. I remember checking the time on my phone and it was somewhere around 3:30 AM.
I don’t know why exactly I woke up. I don’t think I was dreaming at the time. I don’t think there were any loud noises, or that the dogs had done anything.
I felt something on my chest. Still groggy I wasn’t sure what I felt. I used the light of my phone to look down and see what was wrong.
There was a tick crawling on me! Nasty, wicked little creatures.
I reached up and it started crawling on my finger. I swiftly got out of bed and went to the bathroom. I picked up the tube of toothpaste and got the little villain off my finger and on to it. I set the toothpaste down on the counter and went to get my pocket knife.
I got back to the bathroom and the tick had just crawled off the toothpaste and onto the counter. I flipped open the knife and proceeded to cut the tick in pieces, then flushed the pieces down the sink. I put a little rubbing alcohol on the area I dissected it and wiped it down.
There’s been an upswing in ticks in the area over the last week. Yesterday, the wife found one crawling on her pillow. I pulled five live ticks off Houdini while on a walk the other day. The ticks were crawling on his fur and hadn’t attached themselves to him yet. Same with Major Tom only he had three ticks on him.
I pulled two ticks off Major Tom that embedded themselves in his skin, as well as pulling an embedded one off Sirocco.
I dispatch any live ticks I find with great vehemence. Aside from being bloodsucking parasites, they carry disease. In my book, thou shalt not suffer a tick to live.
Stay vigilant, my Hordeling.
