After patiently waiting for a week since I got the shipping tracking notice, the new computer has arrived. I am pleased.
There was some concern, as when it got to the local shipping point and the estimated delivery gave the day and time it was likely to be delivered, we were not going to be home. Also, the delivery required a signature. And it had to be delivered to my address, so redirecting it to a neighbor’s house to accept delivery and sign for it.
I checked the tracking and it still showed it at the local shipping facility about two hours away. We went out to run errands and got home just after 11:00 AM. I checked on the tracking update again and it said the package was out for delivery and expected to be here between 11:10 AM and 1:10 PM. Woohoo! It had originally been scheduled for two days later at roughly the same time frame.
I finished backing things up on my old laptop (the one that kept randomly rebooting) as I kept an eye out the window for the FedEx truck. Right around 12:50 PM it rolled into our driveway and I went out to meet the driver. We chatted a bit. He’s going to be out of a job at the end of September as FedEx is making some changes and letting a lot of delivery drivers go. I hope he manages to find another job quickly.
I signed for my package and took possession of my new computer. Almost as much fun as getting a new toy for Christmas. 🙂
I unboxed the thing and got it set up in my workspace. Had a minor problem getting the wireless keyboard and mouse working but quickly got past it. Then came the forty minutes or so of going through the Windows 11 set up. There was one point where the whole system locked up during the set up. A bit scary but I figured out it was the wireless mouse having problems. I unplugged the dongle from its USB port, plugged it back in, and we were in business. Finished the set up.
Then came the hours of trying to get all the various apps I use downloaded and installed. I think I have just about all of them now. I’m sure there are one or two that I’m forgetting but when I need them I can download and install them then.
I must say it is nice having a computer that doesn’t randomly reboot all the time. And the larger monitor is easier to read. Yes, I’m getting to an age where bigger print is appreciated. I don’t have to keep adjusting the font size from app to app just so I can read everything.
Now, I can get moving on a few projects I’ve been trying to make some progress on.
