There is a fast food chain restaurant near our house. I’m not going to name name’s because they probably won’t come out in a good light in this tale.
Anyway, for years we’ve driven by it and it never looks like there are any customers inside or in the drive thru, or if there are, only one or two. Now, I’ve been past lots of little hole-in-the-wall restaurants with the same problem, but this is a major chain operation. I always wonder how they stay in business and if maybe there is some nefarious criminal operation going on behind the scenes, like the drug lab in the bottom of the Pollo Hermanos restaurant in Breaking Bad.
My wife and I have had a running joke, usually after we’ve eaten out somewhere else, and we end up driving past the (mostly) empty fast food place, we look at each other and say ‘We could’ve gone to _____!’
This evening we were out and about and wanted to get a bite to eat. The place we picked is one of our usual haunts but we forgot they are closed on Tuesdays. Our next few options were ruled out for various reasons, when we were left with two options – pizza and, you guessed it, _____.
It was getting late, the dogs were waiting to be fed at home, and pizza was going to take a while. So we figured, what the heck, let’s go to _____.
We pulled into the drive thru lane, looked over the menu, placed our order, got our food, and took it home.
On the plus side, they got our order right, unlike some other fast food places we’ve dealt with recently.
The food was mediocre at best. Not really great, but not horrible either. The sandwich I had could have come from any fast food place. My wife ordered meat product, which she was not overly happy about. Their fries were thicker than most and crinkle-cut (the way I like them), but were soggy and oversalted. The sauces were watery, and one the wife couldn’t determine what it smelled like, so she passed. Their dessert item, something my wife is fond of, was not great either.
We fed the dogs and in addition they got a few extra ‘treats’ after we were finished eating.
All I can really say positively about the place is their drinks were of a good size (we got medium sized drinks) and their lemonade was decent.
But at least now we know why no one ever seems to be at their restaurants. They are obviously fronts for nefarious criminal schemes.
