5K Word Month Long Challenge – off to a slow start

  • by

Well, I had good intentions. I meant to get up early and get started on some planning for my set of flash fiction tales.

I did get up early. Sirocco decided he needed some ‘quality time’ at 5:00 AM and came into the bedroom and woke me up. His quality time consisted of five minutes of getting pets, then going back to sleep. At least Major Tom took the opportunity to go out to potty. I got back to sleep and ended up waking up around 6:40 AM, just in time to get the dogs out for their morning walk.

After breakfast I ended up going back to bed, which put a later start to the day.

After getting up I got a quick shower in before heading out the door to spend some time with my step-granddaughter. She had the day off from school as it is being prepared as a voting place for tomorrow’s election. We headed out to her favorite park for a nice long walk. We managed to finish just in time and left the park just as the rains started.

After dropping the granddaughter off at home, we headed off to the wife’s cardiologist appointment. We ended up being there an hour ahead of time. While waiting in the lobby, a patient seeing one of the other doctor’s in the building was on the phone, having a very animated conversation with, I assume, his insurance company. He was arguing with the person on the other end of the line saying he needed to get his visit paid for NOW! To paraphrase Edwin Starr “Insurance! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!”

After the wife’s appointment was over it was out to get lunch, then home. At least we had enough food leftover from lunch that we could bring it home and eat it for dinner.

Upon getting home, the wife decided we had to clean out one of the rooms in the house. So, I ended up spending the rest of the afternoon helping to sort all the shtuff into keep / sell / throw away piles. Once that was finished I spent a lot of time looking things up on eBay to see if they might be worth selling. Most of what we had wasn’t worth the effort but three books we own might be worthwhile to try.

We had our leftovers, watched a little TV, then spent most of the evening proofreading a collection of the wife’s short stories she wants to get ready to publish.

I let the day get away from me. It’s my fault for not getting any of my stories completed. Tomorrow will be another day to try and get some work done. I was thinking about it and if I try to do the same pace as I did during NaNoWriMo, I could get fifteen hundred (1500) words a day done. That’s three five hundred (500) word stories done each day. I’d have my collection done in three and a third days. Twenty-six more days in the month would be thirty-nine thousand (39,000) words or 78 more flash fiction tales. That would definitely put me past my 5K word goal. I don’t know if I can make that, but it is worth a shot.
