Our dogs are cray cray

Sirocco and Magdalena napping together

At 4:44 A.M. Sirocco sat outside the bedroom door, whining. To paraphrase Lord Whorfin in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension “Sirocco, you big whiner! You are the biggest whiner I ever know!” He knows I will get up to see what he needs because if I don’t it will turn out he is whining to be let out to go to the bathroom. No such luck. Once again, he just wanted attention. At least the other dogs had the good sense to go out to use the potty. This is the third time this week he has gotten me up before 5:00 AM just to get attention. It makes getting back to sleep difficult so I end up starting off my day at that time. I wonder if I could get doggy Ambien from the vet?

This morning while I was walking Magdalena one of our other neighbors was walking their dog, a little chihuahua mix. Magdalena decided she wanted to go say ‘good morning’ and bolted after them. Being a husky, she’s got lots of pull. I barely managed to keep her under control to keep her from dislocating my shoulder and dragging me down the street. I was saved by Hockey Kid heading to school. We stopped to talk with him and Magdalena sat down while he scratched her head She calmed right down.

Every time there is the slightest noise outside, Major Tom takes it as a threat and has to bark at it. This bodes well for his position as a watch dog as it is guaranteed he will alert us if anyone tries to get into the house. I find it if I tell him to stop barking, he’ll ignore me and keep going. If I tell him he’s a good dog and thanks for protecting the house, he settles down. Go figure.

If there is a puddle of water on the ground, all three dogs will drink from it. Doesn’t matter if it is clean water or not. They seem to prefer it if it is dirty water. They have a water bowl inside that I keep clean. It has a water bottle you fill and turn upside down so it refills the bowl as they drink from it. I think if you put the water bowl and the puddle of water next to each other, our dogs would pick the puddle first every time. Makes me wonder about the quality of the tap water.

It seems Magdalena and Sirocco have resolved their differences and are back in love again. We keep finding them lying down together, whether they are on the couch or in the backyard. They have knock down, drag out play battles where they grab on to each other with their teeth until one of them yelps. It looks like they are trying to kill each other, but I guess they just like to play rough. You’d never know they behave that way when you see them sleeping together.

I can only conclude that our dogs are crazy.

Hopefully, you’re pets are better behaved, my Hordeling.
