The Earth has made another trip around the local star and I’m still here.
This day always makes me think of the poem, For The Anniversary Of My Death, by W. S. Merwin.
The Stoics were big on the concept of Memento Mori – “remember (that you have) to die”. Life is ephemeral, it doesn’t last, and no one gets out alive.
“Time is fleeting”, Riff Raff reminds us in the song “Time Warp” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Comedian Benny Hill used to say “Live every day as if it’s your last, because one day you’ll be right.”
“The literal meaning of life is whatever you’re doing that prevents you from killing yourself” – Albert Camus
What’s my point to all this you may ask?
Just this, my Hordeling. Eat all the brownies and chocolate chip cookies and ice cream that you can get away with because pretty soon you won’t be able to do so and you might as well enjoy them while you can.
If you’d like to support my efforts, why not buy me a chocolate chip cookie through my Ko-Fi page? https://ko-fi.com/jhusum
