In the rankings of philly cheesesteaks, this one comes in at ….

Recently, the wife has been on a kick about chicken wings. She posted in one of the foodie Facebook groups looking for recommendations. Today, we tried out one of the recommended restaurants. Actually, this was the second time in a week we’ve been there.

The place is a New York Style pizzeria. They of course, have pizza, but they have other things too – salads, calzones, pasta dishes, sandwiches.

The first time in wife ordered the wings, with sauce on the side (I don’t recall which one) with eggplant parmigiana as a side dish. She really enjoyed the eggplant, but thought the wings were just okay.

I had a ‘Brooklyn Philly’ and chips. I’m generally a fan of philly cheesesteak sandwiches and I have a ranking in my head of my favorites. Every place I try a philly cheesesteak gets put into the ranking. So, how did this place hold up? Pretty good actually.

The sandwich was hot when it got to the table. The meat was cooked and sliced well, without being horribly greasy. (Not a fan of messy food.) They had green bell peppers and onions mixed in there, which added to the deliciousness. There could have been a little more cheese in there for my tastes. The chips on the side were nice and crispy, not too thick, with a good amount of crunch. They had a house root beer that went well with the meal. Not quite as good as my favorite root beer, IBC, but still good.

To finish it all off, we had dessert. The wife got NY style cheesecake, and I got a brownie. The brownie was good, chocolatey and sweet.

I’d put this eatery in a tie for third place in my rankings of places with good philly cheesesteak sandwiches.

Today we tried other items on the menu. The wife went for the veal parmigiana with spaghetti, and garlic toast. She liked it well enough but thought the veal was a little tough.

I went for the Texas Calzone. Cheese, sauce, black olives and mushrooms (my two toppings of choice) inside a folded pizza pocket. I liked it! I thought the dough baked up just right – not too hard or soft, just right. Even the wife liked the dough. Plenty of mushrooms and black olives inside. Again, could have had a little more cheese for my tastes but good never the less.

The wife found some other items on the menu she wants to try so we will most likely be returning there again.

Thinking about all this has made me hungry again. I’m off to raid the kitchen.

I hope you’re eating well, my Hordeling.
