I got up early this morning and got the beasts walked all so I could be ready when he son-in-law showed up.
He got here bright and early, which is a good thing as the weather had not turned warm yet, which meant the space above the rafters in the garage was not yet beastly hot.
I climbed the ladder then crawled into the space above the rafters. We had more stuff up there than I thought. Lots of small empty boxes, many of which were deteriorated from long exposure to the elements, or being nibbled on by small creatures. They all went into the recycling pile.
There were many pieces of spare wood. One piece looked like a frame, or window, or maybe part of an easel. Had to be careful with a few of the boards as they had nails sticking out of them. Not sure what exactly I’ll end up doing with them.
Next came several metal shelves. Not terribly heavy but bulky and hard to maneuver in a small space.
There was a dog crate with another smaller dog crate inside.
Finally, there was a wheelbarrow.
I maneuvered things around so I could get them to the edge of the rafters. I lowered things down to the son-in-law who grabbed them and guided them to the floor. The wheelbarrow proved to be the most challenging as it sat directly on two rafters, with no plank beneath it. The son-in-law had to climb up and help wrangle it so we could lower it down.
The whole process took maybe fifteen (15) minutes to complete. The big drawback was we took up a lot of the space we cleared out to be able to get through the rest of the garage.
The son-in-law took off and I got some stuff done.
Later, our nice volunteer from our Church came over to help finish cleaning up the garage. The wife wasn’t up to sitting outside so I ended up running things back and forth to see if the items were things to keep or get rid of. Fortunately, most of it was “to get rid of” items so they got set aside to put into a sale.
We went through many of the old cans of paint, which still have some oil or whatever floating in them. We are setting them aside to see if we can get them completely dried out so we can dispose of them. We also had paint thinner, WD-40, various insect killing chemicals, and cleaning supplies.
There are only a few items left but I can get those tomorrow. For all intents and purposes the garage is finished!
Fortunately today was garbage pickup day and I managed to get a lot of things out to the curb before the garbage truck arrived. It’s that much more shtuff gone that we no longer need to deal with.
It was a good day, my Hordeling. I hope yours has gone equally well, or better.
