We need to get the car registered in our new place. It’s just more fun than any person ought to be allowed to have.
I was up early, but that was mainly from the usual early morning wake up call by the furry members of the family. Still it was worthwhile. After all the usual morning activity, I took the car and went to get it serviced. You have to get the car a safety inspection to make sure it is in good working order to drive on the roads. Then when that is done, you get the car registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles. It is a very efficient way to get you to part with money. Yes, there is some side benefit to society at large, but it could be cheaper and still be of benefit to society.
The wife came along, because she wanted to get out of the house.
We got to the dealership and when I pulled in and parked, the battery gave up the ghost. It’s very difficult to open the hatchback on a car with a dead battery. One of the techs came out and jumped the battery, then we got the car moved to the service bay. They told us it would be about two and a half hours to get to servicing the car. Then the wife and I had to sit and wait.
I read a book (working my way through The Shining by Stephen King – different than the Stanley Kubrick film) and the wife watched the TV.
We ended up needing a new battery, new windshield wipers, as well as new tires, to get the car to pass inspection.
While we were waiting, the wife started having back spasms. She was in pain and not doing well. I asked the service center if they had a shuttle to take the wife back home but they didn’t have one available. I got a loaner car from them and drove the wife back home. I dropped her off, made her comfortable, and then headed back to get the car.
Overall it was a little over three hours to get the car serviced. We had to get four tires which was the greatest part of the expense. The battery and windshield wipers weren’t cheap but minimal compared to the tires. And we still have to pay to get the car registered. I got it from the tech and brought it home.
The next step is to get the car registered. I can do that online. I was going to do it when I got home but I started a CHKDSK on my 4 terabyte drive this morning at 6:30 AM to try and fix a directory that has gotten corrupted. It holds a lot of my data so I’m trying to recovery it. Here it is a little over fifteen (15) hours later and it still isn’t done. By my calculations it should be done around the twenty-four (24) hour mark.
I’m borrowing the wife’s computer to send out my daily missive. I suppose I could register the car on her computer but it is slow as all get out so I’d prefer to wait until my computer is ready.
Hope all is going well in your world, my Hordeling.
