Sleep, but not the way I want it

  • by

It started out as a typical day. I got up, got ready for the day, took my blood sugar, which was on the high side, and got the dogs out for their walks.

It was during the first walk with Major Tom that I started getting that tase in my mouth, the one that always precedes heaving my guts out. We were at the furthest point from the house in the walk when everything let loose. I got him back home, then got Sirocco and Magdalena during their turns. The heaving continued during both walks.

In the move, the drug I take for this condition ended up buried in a box somewhere that I haven’t come across yet. Again, fortunately, my neighbor is an EMT. I called him up and asked if he had any and he said he did. He brought some over.

I am grateful that he had some. My other alternative was to drive myself over to the Urgent Care center. I had to drive last year on our way to Texas under these conditions and it was not fun. I’ve had fun before and that was definitely NOT it.

I put one of the pills under my tongue to let it dissolve. The pill tastes terrible but it works. Within a few minutes the nausea started going away and the heaving stopped.

Two things I don’t understand about when this happens are the fact that I get very cold, and without the drug it just keeps going on and on without stopping. That much strain on my stomach and back leave my muscles sore. I’m wondering if all that strain affects my blood flow, leading me to get cold. Maybe someone in the medical community can tell me. And why doesn’t it stop? When it first started happening I would go for an hour and a half or two hours with no signs of stopping. Why does it take a drug to get me to stop? Again, maybe the medical community can tell me.

After the nausea passed I rolled into bed, pulled the covers over me and passed out. I slept most of the morning, waking up a little after 11:00 A.M. I got up briefly and discovered that the wife had called while I was asleep so I called her back. Then I rolled over and got some more sleep, getting up in the mid-afternoon.

I’ve been greatly sleep deprived over the last few months so it was good to be able to catch up on some of it. This wasn’t exactly the way I wanted to do it though. Maybe this was all just my body’s way of getting me to get some sleep. If so, I’d prefer it find some other way, like just sleeping without waking up for a while.

I hope your sleep is good, my Hordeling, and you don’t have to go to such extremes to get some.
