It’s been a long day. Got up and did the usual routine. The it was off to the hospital to be with the wife.
She was rather anxious as she was having a procedure done today called a transesophageal echocardiogram. She wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything since midnight last night. She hasn’t gotten a lot of sleep in the ICU. The day was mainly keeping her spirits up. The Pastor from our church came by this mori to talk with her, which was a comfort to her. He prayed with us before leaving.
I went out to forage or food at lunchtime sine the wife wasn’t allowed to have anything. During my meal I got an alert on my phone from our security system at the Texas house. Someone had gone in the back door and set off the alarm. I disarmed the system remotely and tried to access the camera but it wouldn’t connect. (Another reason I don’t recommend this company.) I called our next door neighbor and he went over to check things out. It turns out that the company planning to buy the house had sent a home inspector over to look at the house but didn’t bother telling them there was a alarm system.
Back at the hospital, we continued waiting for the procedure. The nurse came in to tell us the wife would be getting a CT scan before the procedure. Time kept moving closer to the scheduled time but no one came to take her for the CT scan. About twenty minutes ahead of the procedure they finally came to take her to get the CT scan. She got back and they still weren’t ready for the procedure.
One of the big questions, which no one had bee able to answer all day was which doctor would be doing the procedure. People came in to prep the wife and they were asking who was going to do it. I get the feeling they chose a doctor the way Judge Stone got the job on Night Court. They just went down the list calling doctors until they found one who was home. She arrived, explained what was going to happen, and then shooed me out of the room.
They finally got started a little over an hour late, but it went fairly quickly. Got a little reading in while waiting.
The transesophageal echocardiogram involved them putting a tube down her throat with an ultrasound sensor on the end of it. Since the heart is next to the esophagus this lets them get a good view of the heart. They are trying to see if there is any bacteria growing on the TAVR and if it is the source of the bacterial blood infection. Now we are stuck waiting for them to tell us the results.
The wife optimistically hoped she would get to go home this evening but no such luck. The only good news is that she has finally been moved out of the ICU into a regular room.
Here’s hoping that tomorrow is good news.
