The third Quarterly Blog Hop is happening next Wednesday, July 30. For those of you not familiar with the concept, a group of authors each write a flash fiction tale and post it to their blogs, with links to all the other stories written by the other authors.
At the beginning of the year, I ran a short poll asking folks what genre they thought I should write in for this year’s Blog Hops. I had asked my Muse what genres she might want to write stories in and she gave me the list of choices I used in the poll. The highest number of votes came in for Space Opera. OK, I like Space Opera, this will work.
I missed the first two Blog Hops of this year (January and April). Usually I sit down and the Muse hands me a story. All I have to do is transcribe it. Well, maybe not quite as simple as that. The Muse hands me the story idea, then I sit down and try to write that idea. What ends up on the page isn’t always like the idea the Muse had. It evolves and changes as I write it, but I try to keep the central Muse idea in there. That’s the way all the Trolgar stories I posted in last year’s Blog Hops worked out.
This year, I’m finding the Muse is resisting working on any stories. I want to write the stories, she wants to write the stories, but there is a disconnect somewhere along the way. She’s still handing me ideas for stories, which is good. When I sit down to write, though, nothing flows. The words do not come. I don’t think its “writer’s block”, which I don’t believe in anyway. I write my missives six days a week and don’t have any problems with that.
It could be that I’m not working on the soap opera she wants to write. I’m trying to work on a soap opera with urban fantasy / supernatural elements which I’ve talked about before whereas the Muse wants to write a straight up soap opera. I indulged her on the prep work so maybe she thinks I’m ignoring her desires now. Perhaps I can work on both simultaneously?
There are plenty of stories I want to write across many different genres, probably more than I can create in this lifetime. I just need to find out what the Muse wants to appease her so I can get back to writing again.
