Dev environment up and running again

  • by

So, the original plan for today was to work on the house but the wife was not feeling well. She went back to bed and / or worked on her computer during the day. That left me open for trying to get some stuff done.

I decided that today would be a good day to get my development environment up and running again. I figured that getting my MySQL database running again would be the preferable course of action, rather than trying to uninstall the whole thing and reinstall it again. As noted in yesterday’s post, when I tried to uninstall the whole dev environment, the computer locked up and wouldn’t continue the process.

I’ve tried doing this before but I figured maybe his time around I might have more luck. I went through various online tutorials, with no luck. I went to ChatGPT to see if it could offer anything useful. No luck. After a few hours I determined that this wasn’t going to work. Silly me. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I threw in the towel and had lunch. Afterwards, the wife needed some help on her computer trying to recover some files. We didn’t have much success retrieving them from the online program she was using so I went with Plan B. For Christmas I got her an online cloud storage account. I logged in, found the files she needed, then downloaded them to her machine.

Back to my dilemma. I went ahead and uninstalled my development environment, then loaded it up again. Spent some time getting it configured. That went successfully, so I’m back in the game.

Foolishly, I went in search of a solution to this problem. I figured I’m not the only one that keeps having a MySQL database crash all the time. I did find similar reports, and even one other user on a forum asking the same question of how to keep MySQL from crashing. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the proposed solution to work. Again, silly me. I’ll keep looking for a solution though. Fixing this problem is better than uninstalling / reinstalling my dev environment all the time.

Now that I’ve got my dev environment back I’ll have to get back up to speed on my programming. I’m a little rusty as I’ve been away from it due to packing, moving and the wife being ill. I’m sure I’ll pick it back up quickly.
