To begin with, I had a good night last night. That was a Good Thing(tm).
Got up this morning and made breakfast for the wife, walked the dogs, and did some work on the computer. A little after 9:00 AM I got a shower in.
After the shower is when the magic happened. I lay down, intending to take a short nap, then get back to getting some more work done on the computer. I can take a fifteen (15) minute nap and be refreshed enough to get more things done.
When I nap I set the alarm on my phone for fifteen minutes, getting up when it goes off. This morning though, I forgot to set the alarm.
I slept until just before noon!
The only reason I got up then is because the dogs started barking at the UPS delivery driver dropping off a package on our doorstep. Turns out it was for our neighbors. (I ran it over to their house later.)
I felt so much better getting some good quality sleep. I was more alert than I’ve been in a while, got some work done, and even ran an errand for the wife.
Later in the evening I got some notes down for yet another project the Muse got exited over. I really felt like I had a clear vision of what she wanted and the ideas just flowed onto the page. I like it when that happens.
I’ve run on such a sleep deficit over the years that when I do get a good sleep like this it is noticeable. I really feel like I was firing on all cylinders today. They say good sleep lets your mind rest, help it to sort out events and activities of the day, and store memories more easily. It is also said your body heals faster, and cleans out plaque from your brain. I certainly felt like all that was true today.
If you don’t get enough sleep, my Hordeling, do whatever you can to get some good, uninterrupted sleep. You won’t regret it.
