Making some progress on the house

  • by

The ramp that the volunteer crew put in for us has been invaluable. I can get the wife up the ramp in her wheelchair, making it much easier to get into the house.

Now that the wife is involved, and can actually make some decisions on where she wants things to go, we are managing to get through more boxes and get them sorted.

We are running into some issues with clothes as there isn’t as much closet space in the master bedroom as the previous house. A lot of my clothes are going to an upstairs spare bedroom closet.

There are some items that we don’t have places for yet, but at least we are getting them out of boxes and into the rooms they belong in. We’ve gotten the master bedroom and dining room cleaned out and most of the bins in the main hallway by the stairs are lighter than before. We really need to tackle the kitchen, living room and study to make the house livable. Once we have them cleared of boxes it will be much easier to move around the house.

We’ve discovered that the movers brought up some of the things we’d intended to sell or donate before we left the old house. It would have been better to get rid of the shtuff before we left but such is life. We’re trying to get those items into their own stack so we can sell / donate them up here.

All the empty cardboard boxes are temporarily going into the garage until I can turn them into building material to make some shelves. Its nice having lots of raw material to work with. I’m hoping that the wheatpaste process works well and I can turn it all into usable ‘wood’ to make some shelves for my loft. You can also grind up cardboard in a blender, mix the resulting blob of shtuff with wheatpaste and make a sort of clay to mold into various objects. I’d like to try that as well.

Other than that, we’re taking life one day at a time.

I hope all goes well for you in your world, my Hordeling.
