I like apples. I eat one almost every day with lunch.
Why do I bring this up? Because the wife and I were out at a garden store and I found a golden delicious apple tree. Let’s see, keep buying apples all the time, or grow my own?

I’ll go for growing my own. As I was talking to the landscaper who was going to plant the tree for us, she asked if it need a pollinator – another plant that helps attract bees to pollinate the tree. It turns out that golden delicious trees are self-pollinating. They do however produce more apples if they are paired with another type of apple tree, like honeycrisp apples. It just so happens that I also like honeycrisp apples so that works out well. The garden center also had some honeycrisp apple trees so I ended up getting one of those too.
The landscaper came by today and got them planted for us. They are young trees so I don’t expect that they’ll produce apples until at least next year. Possibly not until two years from now. I’ll have to water them well for the next two weeks so they will hopefully take root and keep growing.
Yes, I know that getting apples from the tree will be a task. We have a lot of wildlife in the area and I expect many of the apples will end up going to them. But I hope I’ll get at least a few. I’m not sure what pest apple trees draw so I’ll have to do some research into that to make sure we keep them away. Also, if we ever sell the house I’m making it a condition of the sale that I get to come and harvest apples from the two trees any time I want. Yes, that may make it difficult to sell the house, but them’s the breaks.
While we waited for the landscaper to get to the house we spent the time cleaning up. We’ve been building up a collection of boxes, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts as we unbox everything and put it away. We’ve got bubble wrap and peanuts all over the floor. We took care of all that today. I gathered the boxes, broke them down, then took them all out to the garage. We filled a few boxes with the bubble wrap, and a few more boxes with the packing peanuts. They got stored away because we didn’t want them to draw rats if they were stored in the garage. (The boxes might draw rats but hopefully not).
The last step was to sweep everything up and put the trash out.
It is so much nicer having all that shtuff gone. The house feels more like home now. I don’t have to make my way around all the boxes and shtuff. I can just walk through the hallway, like it has been unclogged. Also, its nice having all the clutter gone.
All this moving, boxes, and clutter is making me think a minimalist lifestyle might be worth adopting.

A very commendable and worthwhile project. Good luck with it. I imagine it will turn out to be more difficult than you originally thought, but that’s the way of worthwhile projects.
I’m talking about the apple trees, but cleaning up can also be both worthwhile and difficult. Plus, once you finish, you have to start over from scratch the next day. It’s that Entropy-thing. Not sure what God was thinking when she came up with that.
