Here we are on the first day of a new year, 2026. That mental shift is happening all around the world, the shift that says that everything is new and shiny and full of possibilities, that we can make everything better. Resolutions are made to make substantial changes in our lives.
Realistically, it’s just another day. The same as yesterday, the same as tomorrow. We always have the ability to make things better. We don’t have to wait for the calendar to roll over to do so. And it seems most people give up on their resolutions by the end of February. Inertia and procrastination are powerful forces. It takes effort to overcome them.
At dinner with friends last night, they gave me a belated Christmas gift – a set of polyhedral dice but with large numbers on them, because, you know, I’m old. Can’t read those small numbers on regular die, it seems. Eh? Eh? Get off my lawn, you punks! Still, dice are always good so I appreciate the gift.
Lots of domestic tasks today. Cleaning up, looking for a green bowl among all the unpacked boxes, cooking dinner – pork cops and green beans. Came out quite tasty. And of course cleaning the dishes and kitchen.
Our washer went on the fritz right in the middle of a load of laundry. It just stopped. Couldn’t get it to do anything. Checked the fusebox to see if it had tripped the breaker but nothing out of sorts there. Most likely need to call someone to fix it.
Got caught up on my writers forum, and cleaned up some email. I’m apparently reaching the limit of my email storage and need to clean shtuff out so I can continue to use email.
My sister called me this evening. It was nice to catch up with her. She has finally joined Facebook. I’m sure hilarity will ensue.
Watched some TV this evening.
Got a tiny bit of writing done.
Tomorrow the wife has plans for more work around the house.
I hope your year is starting off well, my Hordeling.

I made a resolution back in 1987 to not bother making New Years resolutions any more.
So far I have not had any problems sticking to that resolution.
