The next winter blast is arriving

We’ve had a little over a week of good weather. Well, good for winter weather. The temperatures have usually been over 45 deg F. (7.2 deg C). Most of the time we haven’t had howling winds. We’ve even had some sunshine.

But no longer. The next winter blast is going to hit. Tonight.

We’re expecting more snow overnight. We had snow a few days ago but it disappeared fairly quickly. We had a high temperature of 41 deg F (5 deg C) today. That’s also the high temperature for the next week.

The forecast calls for high temps around 26 deg F (-3.3 deg C) and lows around 11 deg F (-11 deg C) for the next week.

I may finally get my chance to drive in snow. We didn’t properly plan and the wife has a prescription to pick up at the pharmacy. It is one she can’t be without so I’ll be heading out tomorrow to get it for her.

I find I’m adapting to the cold much better than I expected. Unless it is damp out, or snowing, I find I’m mostly tolerating the cold. I’m not happy with the winds but I can do OK with them if I’m bundled up enough. When it gets damp I find the cold more biting. Then I start shivering like I used to do in Texas. Otherwise I seem to be fine.

My hands are having a few problems with the cold. They get dried and cracked and if they get bad enough they start bleeding. I got some gloves that I can wear at night to try and retain some of the skin moisture. Along with some moisturizer and I’ve been able to keep my hands in (mostly) good condition.

The snow has started as I write this. I am not looking forward to having to clean off the steps and driveway in the morning when I have to go out to get the wife’s drugs. And defrosting the car’s windows. I could let them defrost strictly from the heater inside the car but that takes a long time. I could get out and use the scraper to clear the ice off but that means being out in the cold. We’ll see how much patience I end up with in the morning.

I hope all is well in your area, my Hordeling, and the weather is favorable.
