Dang! More than halfway through January of the new year and my writing has mostly fallen by the wayside.
December of 2025 was not good. The medical problems both my wife and I had were a bit much to deal with. Also, the holidays took up a lot of time.
January has been crazy. This is our first winter in the new house. There has been cold days, snow and ice. The wife should be used to these by now as she’s a Yankee. Also, she’s got that Northerner layer of fat to help keep her warm. I do not have such an advantage. I have been adapting to the cold weather better than I expected, but I’d still prefer warmer weather. I’m going to ae to resign myself to the fact that I’m never going to be warm again.
But I digress. I have not made progress on my writing. That’s my fault. I’ve let my discipline go in a lot of areas. The Muse has been percolating on things in the background, but I’ve not held up my end in getting the words on to paper. I need to sit down and get some things worked out so I can get going.
I’ve not worked on the supernatural soap opera, which is my primary writing task. I need to get moving on that. I need to start, and stop waiting until everything is ‘perfect’. Nothing is ever perfect and delaying because I’m trying to get to this mythical state is not helping any.
My Muse has been circling back to some other projects too. Mainly flash fiction tales. Last year I started writing a series of flash fiction stories based on D&D tropes. I had another set of stories based on a different set of tropes. Also, the first Blog Hop of the year is coming up in a little over a week so I’ll need another story for that. I’m likely going to continue the space opera storyline I started during the last Blog Hop.
The thing with flash fiction is that they are short, you can bundle ten stories and have a sellable title. Having more titles out on the market will help get my name and work out there. That is not a bad thing as an author. The supernatural soap opera will do the same thing.
I’ve got the first volume of the D&D tropes flash fiction stories done. I’ve got notes and outlines for the remaining stories. If I can get one flash fiction tale done each day I’d have the whole set of stories done in about three months. I could release each volume as it is finished, or I could save them all up and do a ‘rapid release’ strategy to try to ge the Amazon algorithm to pick them up and promote them to more people.
I need get back into my writing groove and start getting words out.
This is not a New Year’s solution. This is me recommitting to the life path I want to travel.
I do not know if I’ll ever build an audience and make a living off this. If not, well, at least I hope I like the stories I create. (I have so far). At least I’ll have some fun along the way.
I hope you’ll stick around for the journey, my Hordeling.
