We survived the weekend of snow. Power stayed on the whole time, thankfully. The winds died down. Things are looking a little better.
The wife hired someone to come clear all the snow and ice from he driveway. The guy showed up with a mini-backhoe with a plow on the front of it. Talk about the right tool for the job! It beat the hell out of a claw hammer and a snow shovel. In about ten minutes he cleared the whole driveway, including the ice. We can get the cars out again and run errands if need be. Which I did this afternoon, going out to grab a few things we needed from the grocery store.
The roads in town are clear, but the parking lots are a lot different. They are still covered in ice. Most of the grocery store parking lot was clear but I had to park in a space where there was still a lot of ice on the ground. It made putting the groceries in the car a challenge.
I also went to KFC to get dinner. I went there a few weeks ago to get takeout, before all the ice and snow, as the wife likes them. I went inside to get our order “to go” as a long line of cars were in the drive thru lane. I was in line behind several people, and the place was busy. This is the same KFC that we’ve had problems at before, usually getting our order wrong. Sure, enough, this time they got it wrong again. When I go home, the wife was annoyed enough to call them and yell at the manager. At the time, the manager said to come in next time and she’d replace the order for free.
Well, I went in, this time, the place was almost empty. I got to the counter and the manager was there. She had also been the person who’d taken my order the night they messed up. I explained how I’d been in before all the snow and ice hit the area, how we’d had the order get messed up, and how my wife had called in her complaint. I told her she’d said we’d get the order replaced for free. I then asked her if she remembered that.
She said she didn’t remember it, but to her credit she said she’d check on it. First she asked if it was her that took the order and I told her yes. The she asked my name, which I gave her, then told her it might be under the wife’s name as she called in the complaint. She checked her office, and consulted a few other employees. Ultimately, she came back to the counter, took the order again, then rung it all up and voided the payment.
She then went ahead and put the order together, and brought it to the counter.
“Would you like to check it before you leave?”
“Sure, might as well,” I replied. I looked through the bag of boxes, opening them all and making sure what we ordered was in there. It was all there and correct.
“Thank you so much. I appreciate your help.” She smiled and I left.
Then I made my way through all the ice in the parking lot successfully, unlocked the car, and got in, without dropping the drinks or the food.
It’s nice to see KFC honor their promise and get us our order for free. We’ve had so many problems with this KFC in the past it was good of them to put in the effort to get it right this time. I’m sure it helped that the place wasn’t busy. If it had been as busy as the night I placed the first order, it would have been a lot easier for them to say “tough luck!” and let it go. Either way, this was an example of good customer service. Kudos to you, KFC.
