Return of the Cleaning Lady

  • by

Yes, I admit I’m messy. Organized chaos as I like to call it.

Now, I do most of my work on the computer at the kitchen table, since that’s about the only place I have to set it up. Consequently, as my workspace, it tends to get cluttered. Mainly, paper. Mail, bills, stuff to be filed, and lots of little notes I write to myself make up the bulk. There’s some other stuff there too – a g collar, coins, knick knacks and thingamabobs, and other assorted miscellanea.

Well, the lady we had cleaning for us previously was back for another round. Today, part of what she worked on was, you guessed it, the kitchen table.

Now, while she was working on another part of the house I started going through all the papers on the table. I sorted things into filing, things to toss / shred, and unpaid bills. Thee were a few things the wife had to determine what to do with as well.

When she was ready, the cleaning lady came over and started on some of the papers I hadn’t gotten to yet. She put things into piles to make it a little easier. I got all of that taken care of, then she the knick knacks and other assorted things. She got it organized and put into boxes and the stuff got moved to somewhere else.

We could finally see tabletop! She them wiped it down, put the two candles back (which were part of the assorted shtuff) and said we could sit down at the diner table tonight and have a candle-lit dinner. She might be on to something with this eating at the dinner table idea. It could really catch on.

It really is amazing how having a cleaner space improves my mood. We went out to get groceries today. When I came home and brought the groceries in the house, I had room to set them all down before putting the away. Before I’d have to bring in one or two bags, put them on the counter, put them away, then go get more from the car. Much easier doing it all at once.

Since the kitchen got cleaned up, I’ve been doing my best to keep it that way. I’m making sure the dishes get done and loaded in the dishwasher each day, get all the cooking pans and utensils washed and put away, and I’m trying to keep the counters lean. I’ve got more room to prepare meals now, which makes cooking easier. I’m guessing this is tying into my recent desire to be more productive and get things done again.

How are things in your environment, my Hordeling? Hopefully they are conducive to making your life easier.
