Cleaning up dolls

  • by

As the wife continues her pursuit of eBay dominance and getting her toys online, we’ve run into a small problem.

Some of the old dolls have gotten ink smudges on their faces. Kids do the craziest things with their toys.

We’ve managed to get many of them off. Most of the time, we’ve been able to use some rubbing alcohol and gently clean the ink marks from the plastic with a cotton ball. We’re very conscious of doing anything to mar the surface of the doll’s skin.

If the rubbing alcohol fails, we’ve had a little luck with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. These things work wonders if you’re tryin to get ink or markers off of surfaces. Again, being very careful we’ve gently rubbed the stains and they’ve come off.

But there are a few dolls that neither of these methods have worked on. The wife found a laundry cleaner online that was supposed to be good for ink stains and sent me out to get some. One of the other drawbacks to Small Town America – stores close early. They closed about twenty minutes before I got there. Have to try again tomorrow I suppose.

I stopped by the local Dollar General to consult with them on the matter. (They were still open). They covered the methods we’ve already tried, and went so far as to suggest using very fine grained sandpaper or steel wool. I’d save that as a last resort as those would be very abrasive and we don’t want to damage the dolls.

So, do you have any bright ideas, my Hordeling, for cleaning the ink off the plastic dolls? If so, leave a comment and let me know.
